Chapter 15

Beth

All I could do after was stare at the ceiling, bathing in the afterglow, amazed by what had just happened.

Jack had stepped out to grab some water, leaving me alone with my thoughts for a few moments. I let my eyes trace over the wood ceiling above, the support clearly hand-carved. I wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d built this whole damn place himself.

It wasn’t long before he sauntered back into the room, not a stitch of clothing on him. He walked with total confidence, his thick cock between his powerful thighs, a water bottle in his hand.

“Here,” he said. “You’re probably thirsty as hell too.”

Looking at his gorgeous body on full display in front of me, “thirsty” was certainly the right word. He handed me the water and I drank, nearly draining the entire bottle. When I was done, I set it aside just in time for him to move in and greet me with another deep kiss.

Just like that, I was ready to go again. I stopped myself, however, putting my hands on his big shoulders and gently pushing him away. He moved back, a slightly curious look on his face.

“Something up?”

“Kind of. I just have something I want to talk to you about.”

He nodded, seeming unbothered by my sudden change in attitude. It was something I really liked about Jack, how unflappable he was, how nothing seemed to get under his skin or make him lose his cool. That is, aside from a strange man in an expensive suit kissing my hand.

He offered me his hand and together, we went back to the living room. I dressed, watching Jack slip into his jeans and that tight, white T-shirt. He plopped onto the couch, reaching for the beer he’d been drinking before our fun.

“Listen, it’s obvious you’re worried.”

“Am I really that readable?”

“You’re clearly tense. Are you worried about Beau, about what he’d think if he were to find out about what was going on between us?”

“I mean, I guess a little? We weren’t together all that long or super serious, but I just don’t want anything to come between you two if he feels weird about it.”

Just like always, Jack didn’t seem too concerned. “Beau’s got a lot going on these days. But he’s a grown man, he can handle what life throws at him. And if we end up dating, then he’s going to have to be OK with that.”

I opened my mouth to speak. As soon as I processed his words, however, I paused, my eyes flashing wide.

“Wait, did you just say you wanted to date?”

“I sure as hell did.” There wasn’t the slightest hesitation to his voice. He knew what he wanted, and he wasn’t afraid to put it out there. “Beth, the way I feel about you… I can’t explain it. You’re brilliant and gorgeous and ambitious, definitely talented from what little I’ve seen. I’ve wrestled with this feeling for a good long while, basically the whole damn time since we first met. But seeing you today got me thinking that there might be something deeper going on.
